ON THIS BLOG POST I WILL SHARE WITH YOU MY RECOMMENDATIONS FOR A RELAXING NATURE VACATION
AND A FEW SKIN CARE TIPS FOR YOUR SUMMER HOLIDAYS
First let me tell you about Menorca, a small & magical Spanish Island in the Mediterranean
Imagine yourself on a small island,
full of green spaces all around you,
with beautiful and almost private bays that are called “Cala” all over the island,
little Spanish style houses, red floors,
eating fresh fruits on the seaside and waking up with amazing Spanish coffee,
the aroma of the sea salt in the air, surrounded by the beautiful Mediterranean sea.
This is Menorca!
If you are seeking a summer vacation that connects you to nature
Sun, sea and lots of natural green spaces all over
If you love to walk around the small village houses
To see all the beautiful small shops with decorative seashells, beachwear and authentic espadrilles
Delicious fresh food and I’ll mention again the Spanish coffee 😉
Natural beaches- clear turquoise water
Sun, sun and more sun
I would highly suggest you go and visit Menorca-
This place is a piece of paradise on earth.
Menorca is full of nature everywhere, in order to get to a “Cala“- a small and special bay you need to go through the forest…
and then you will discover the unique beaches, turquoise water, soft sand and cliff surrounding the Cala.
You can go to the more touristic beaches and enjoy the lovely restaurants around
or to pack your own snacks and go to a small and private Cala.
At the Cala during the season, summertime,
you will find other tourists that are seeking for peace and quiet,
a lifeguard that keeps the swimmers safe and nothing else except the beach,
sometimes one man with a cart will come to sell tropical fruits or beer.
In the evening you can go out in the big city- Ciutadella and enjoy from nice restaurants
or in Fornells a smaller village with a port and lots of restaurants near the sea.
Skincare – summer vacation,
TIPS from Naturopath:
For me sea and sun means freedom
While your skin has been kissed by the sun
You look more glamorous and need no foundation or makeup
With a perfect wavy sea hair.
I will share with you now all about my natural skin care routine on the island:
When I travelled I took with me my essentials:
- Coconut Oil
- Shea Butter
- Aloe Vera
- Arnica Gel
COCONUT OIL + ALOE VERA AS AFTER SUN CREAM
On the island, I used coconut oil mixed with a bit of aloe every day, in the evening after the shower as my own after sun lotion.
Coconut oil has antibacterial and antifungal qualities, it is an excellent moisturizer.
Contains medium chain fatty acids,
the main ones are Capric, Caprylic and Lauric acid (these have the strong disinfectant and antimicrobial properties.)
Coconut oil also contains Vitamin-E, which is essential for healthy and smooth skin.
Aloe vera contains active constituents: vitamins, enzymes, minerals, sugars, lignin, saponins, salicylic acids and amino acids.
It has been reported to have a protective effect against radiation damage to the skin.
“Exact role is not known, but following the administration of aloe vera gel, an antioxidant protein, metallothionein, is generated in the skin, which scavenges hydroxyl radicals and prevents suppression of superoxide dismutase and glutathione peroxidase in the skin. It reduces the production and release of skin keratinocyte-derived immunosuppressive cytokines such as interleukin-10 (IL-10) and hence prevents UV-induced suppression of delayed type hypersensitivity.” (1)
*It is best to apply it to a small area first to test for possible allergic reaction.
With the heat of the summer, I was attacked a lot by mosquitoes, luckily for me, I took with me Arnica.
Arnica and aloe help me to calm the itchiness from the mosquito bites.
Arnica was my trip surprise!
I took arnica soap just to relax my muscles after long days of touring the city and I found it to be the most relaxing soap for my skin.
Arnica gel/ cream is applied to the skin for pain and swelling associated with bruises, aches, and sprains.
It is also applied to the skin for insect bites, arthritis, muscle and cartilage pain and acne.
Last but not least is MY STAR- Shea butter.
I use Shea butter on my hair ends and on my face.
Shea butter nourishes the skin deeply, gives it elasticity, regenerates it and has the particularity of protecting the skin from the harmful effects of the sun.
Shea butter is very rich in active substances (terpene alcohols, phytosterols, latex, vitamins A and E …)
and has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and protective against UV (SPF around 6) qualities.
That’s it 🙂
Until the next time!
